A MAN has been arrested after a police chase ended in major crash.

A driver of a stolen car smashed into two other vehicles while fleeing a police chase in Chorley Old Road.

The road was closed for around an hour and two occupants of the stolen Audi involved have been taken to hospital.

A man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving. 

The police were called to reports of a stolen vehicle in Hibernia Street at around 7pm last night.

A tracker located the grey Audi Q2 on Wilkson Road at around 1.20pm today.

The police chased the car until it collided with the other vehicles, losing a wheel in the huge smash.

The road has now reopened and police are directing traffic.

Bus passengers have been left stranded as buses were unable to pass the damaged vehicles.

The street was closed at the junction of Kirkhall Lane and debris was scattered across the road - opposit the Shell Garage.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 7pm on Thursday 9 January 2020, officers were called to reports of the theft of a motor vehicle from Hibernia Street, Bolton.

"At around 1.20pm today (Friday 10 January 2020), a tracker located the grey Audi Q2 on Wilkson Road.

"Officers attended and engaged in a short pursuit. A short time later, the car collided with a number of vehicles on Chorley Old Road.

"The two occupants of the Audi have been taken to hospital.

"A man's been arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving."
