A KEY department store inside a town centre shopping centre will remain open despite national closures.

Debenhams, in the Market Place, Bolton, was not included in a list of 19 of its sister shops set to shut across the country this month.

It comes as the company looks to cut costs after dropping into administration in April last year, with a further 28 locations set to be closed in 2021.

Nicki Wilson-Cook, manager at the Market Place, said she was pleased that Bolton store was not included in the closures.

"We're delighted that they are not on the closure list," she said. "It's great that that that is the case and it's brilliant that Bolton isn't included with the first 19."

Debenhams had 165 stores when it entered administration, with around 50 thought to be closing over the next two years affecting as many as 4,000 jobs.

The first set of stores to shut include branches in Altrincham, Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Southport.

However, Debenhams chief executive Stefaan Vansteenkiste, said the company was "progressing with our turnaround" and staff were "working hard to implement the transformation".
