A THIEF who targeted an organisation that helps homeless people and stole from shops has been jailed for 13 weeks by Bolton magistrates.

The court heard how Barry Lomax, aged 26, of Callis Road, Bolton, stole clothing, worth £100, from a vehicle parked in the Fletcher Street yard of charity Emmaus on July 22.

On November 28 he stole £116 worth of chocolate from Tesco Express in Wigan Road after taking alcohol, worth £5 from the same store on October 12.

He was caught when he returned to the shop on New Year's Day and stole alcohol and meat worth £52.

Magistrates heard that Lomax has an extensive criminal record and committed the offences whilst he was on licence.

Lomax was ordered to pay his victims a total of £121 in compensation.
