A FAMILY have managed to walk away from a car crash.

Leanne Farrington, along with her two children, Robyn, two, Phoenix, six, her cousin Samantha Farrington and her daughter Tessa, seven, were involved in a crash in Shadsworth Road, Blackburn, on Saturday night.

Leanne, 35, said the family had been driving to McDonald's at around 8.30pm when another car struck the family's car.

Samantha, who was driving, said the car had crossed her path after failing to stop at a stop sign and hit the side of the car.

Leanne, a university psychology student from Shadsworth, said her cousin's car span around a couple of times before coming to a stop.

She said: "We were all really shook up and didn't really realise what was going on.

"The police and paramedics were called and helped everyone.

"I was taken to hospital because I potentially had damage to my sternum, but thankfully it only turned out to be bad bruising from the seatbelt.

"The paramedics said if I wasn't wearing the seat belt I would have gone through the windscreen."

Leanne said her cousin's car's front end was badly damaged, and the car that collided with them had spun off the road and hit a lamppost.

The mother said: "None of the kids had any serious injuries.

"The two people from the other car were able to get out so I don't think they were too badly injured."

After the group had been checked over they were allowed to go home at around 4am on Sunday morning.

Samantha said she suffered whiplash and concussion as a result of hitting her head on the sidedoor window and her daughter suffered abrasions to her neck.

Leanne said: "It's a good job we were in a 4x4 car as I think it protected us an awful lot.

"I'm so happy and shocked to be able to walk away from a crash like that as you see things like this and the people are often in a very bad way.

"I'm supposed to be going back to study at Blackburn College's university centre but with my bruising I think I will have a few days off to recover."

A police spokesman said they were called to an collision which involved minor injuries.
