AS the country goes to the polls today, we've looked back into our political archives.

This picture from 1977 shows Margaret Thatcher on a visit to Ewood Park – two years before she became Prime Minister.

She is seen here chatting with the Mayor of Blackburn Coun Nen Bramley Haworth during her visit.

In later years Mrs Thatcher would become an honorary vice president of the club.

When Mrs Thatcher died in 2013 there was debate over whether a minute's silence should be held at Ewood.

Rovers decided they would not hold a silence at their home game against Derby County.

Former Conservative minister David Mellor had said that he feared some supporters around the country would not respect any silence.

Rovers ultimately decided against a silence, instead opting to mark her death and her role at the club with an article in the matchday programme.
