POLITICAL commentator Owen Jones made his way to the North West this weekend.

Continuing his nationwide campaign for Labour, the author arrived in Bury, taking to the streets with Bury South's Labour candidate Lucy Burke and a big crowd of supporters.

Later on Twitter, the writer thanked residents who came to meet him, saying: "This is the fight of our lives. It’s not too late for any of us to play our part.

"The odds are against us - but we can only do this with hope, optimism, courage and determination."

He also appeared in Halliwell on Saturday night to meet supporters and knock on doors in the surrounding area.

Mr Jones, also a columnist for The Guardian, was joined by the parliamentary candidate for Bolton North East, Sir David Crausby.

The pair spoke to the crowd about the local campaign and their respective fights for Labour votes as the general election draws ever closer.

Mr Jones made a name for himself with his debut book, Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class.

He then published his second work The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It.

Both books were received praise from critics and the author won several awards for his non-fiction writing.
