Twenty-year-old FatimaAlainah Hussain is creating more awareness of muscular dystrophy on Instagram. Read her inspiring story in her own words here.

I’m Fatima and I’m a makeup artist. I am also an Instagram (@fatima.alainah) blogger. I write and post about makeup, fashion and most importantly about my condition.

I have muscular dystrophy. I use Instagram to show people how I live with my condition and mainly to show others that despite my disability, I am still living my dream of being a makeup artist and a blogger.

I have tried to ensure my disability is never a barrier in my dreams and allow it to be a motivation to keep doing what I love.

Regardless of a disability, I believe I have the capability and ability to achieve my best, regardless of my condition.

When I was growing up, I never let my condition get to me. I knew that I was different to other kids, however, I never felt inferior.

I noticed a few people on Instagram had themes. I didn’t want a theme because I wanted my Instagram page to be different and unique.

I like to post product reviews, skincare tips, my makeup looks and sometimes I post about my lifestyle. I like to post things that relate to other people out there and to inspire them.

I’ve always wanted to be a makeup artist from a young age but I didn’t think that I would be able to it. But then I motivated myself to do what I love. It was really difficult at first but once I got the hang of it, I was fine. I still struggle now but I always take it slow and easy.

There are so many things I like about being a makeup artist. I love meeting new people and listening to their stories. I’ve always been a creative person. Being a makeup artist has helped me explore my creativity. I also love learning new makeup techniques and applying them on my clients.

I have travelled to many countries including Florida twice, Dubai, Saudi Arabia a few times and I have discovered many different makeup skills and techniques which I feel shine through my individuality.

I enjoy spending time with my family and have immense faith in my religion which I feel keeps me going whenever I feel upset or down.

My religion and faith in God helps me deal with my condition with a brave face and allows me to be grateful in any given situation.

Alongside my makeup and blogging, I am also a big foodie and enjoy eating at different restaurants. I enjoy going to places with good presentation and visually aesthetic places as I enjoy fine-dining.

My younger sister who has been a big support in my life is someone I also look up to. I also want to be a significant role model so she is inspired by me and also pursues her dreams without any fear.

I am a very optimistic individual who even when my health is at its worst I like to live in the moment and take each day as it comes.

My advice to those who are disabled is that they should motivate themselves to follow their dreams. Being disabled should not stop you from following your dreams.
