A TEENAGER was "jumped by a gang" outside a Premier shop in Radcliffe, one of whom was "wielding" a metal object.

The male victim, aged 18, was approached from behind by a group of five unknown men and assaulted, police said.

A number of items were stolen from the teenager during the incident outside the Cross Lane convenience store.

The victim's sister claims one member of the group was "using a hammer".

She posted on the Spotted: Radcliffe Facebook page: "My brother has just been jumped and robbed near the Premier shop on the bend of Dumers lane by nine lads using a hammer."

In an update, she posted: "He's fine just bruised and waiting for police. He's fine, just bruises on arms by the hammer."

The incident happened at about 7.45pm on Thursday, November 28, and was reported to Greater Manchester Police.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and police enquiries are ongoing.

A police spokesman said: "We were called shortly after 7.45pm on Thursday, November 28, 2019, to reports an 18-year-old man had been robbed by a group of men in Cross Lane, Bury.

"Five men – one believed to be wielding an unknown metal object – are understood to have approached the man from behind and assaulted him.

"They stole a number of items including his bank card and a green CP beanie he was wearing.

"No one has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing."
