A TREE has toppled over on to a car causing traffic chaos.
The tree came crashing down on to a vehicle on Chorley New Road, Bolton, around 20 minutes ago.
Eye-witnesses say that the car was driving along the road when the tree toppled over — but say they believe the driver escaped unharmed.
One person said: "It fell near to a crossing used to get across Chorley New Road.
"I'm not sure how the tree has fallen, I'm guessing it was the recent bad weather."
Another said: "I don't think the driver has been injured, he seems to be out of his car.
"Traffic is down to a single lane and is already building in the area and will get worse."
A driver who has just passed the incident said: "Traffic is now backing up to Beaumont Road.
"Cars are having to go on the otherside of the road to avoid it, I am just warning drivers that traffic is really heavy in the area.
"I think the road might have to be closed off as they deal with the fallen tree."
