DESTRUCTIVE yobs trashed a railway station in a callous overnight attack.

Commuters arrived at Kearsley station this morning to find that vandals had smashed shelters and the ticket machines with rocks.

The incident left passengers with no way to purchase tickets at the station.

Damage done to the shelters had also left shards of glass scattered about the platform and meant those waiting had no cover from the elements.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police was called at 7.42am on November 8 to Kearsley railway station following a report of vandalism.

“The incident is understood to have happened overnight. Those involved are reported to have smashed the glass of the waiting shelter and damaged the ticket machine. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
