BARNOLDSWICK have been awarded the best town in the north west of England at this year's Britain in Bloom awards.

By winning the town category, Barnoldswick will now be put forward as one of the communities to represent the region in next year's national Britain in Bloom finals.

As well as carrying away the silver plate for the town, it also won a gold medal for the best new landscaping with a sensory garden.

Bloom member Joan Shaw was presented with a personal award for her outstanding contribution.

A Barnoldswick Bloom spokesman said: "Barnoldswick scooped a haul of trophies and awards, becoming the best town in the north west.

"If you'd like to get involved with the successful bloom group please let us know, or just come along to one of our community activities."

The bloom team will be tidying up the war memorial area on Friday (November 8) before Remembrance Day and creating giant Christmas globes for the Christmas light switch on, which will take place on Saturday, November 16.
