A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a horror smash with a van on the Grane Road.

A motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, has been confirmed dead by police after a crash with a van close to the Grey Mare Inn.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after noon to reports that a van and a Kawasaki motorbike had collided on the B6323 Elton Road. 

The motorcyclist, who was from Rochdale, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed. 

The driver of the van was unhurt. 

The road was shut in both directions for six hours between the Grey Mare and the Holden Arms, Haslingden, affecting traffic heading between Haslingden and Blackburn.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward while officers investigate.

Sgt Craig Booth, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Tac Ops, said: “This collision has sadly resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.”

Rossendale Police said at the time of the incident: "Grane Road is currently closed between the Holden Arms at the Haslingden side and the motorway roundabout at the Blackburn side due to a serious collision, please avoid the area whilst we deal with this incident."
