VISITORS to Heaton Park and Hall will be able to benefit from free rides on the historic tramway after it was targeted.

Free rides are being offered this Saturday to celebrate the reopening of the heritage tramway following a setback last month when yobs made off with a 40-metre section of overhead wires containing copper.

Heartbroken volunteers feared the line may may be forced to close indefinitely, however the community rallied around the historic attraction. Dozens of people donated money to help cover the cost of repairs.

Together with specialist transport engineering firm Pod-Track, TfGM and KAM sourced replacement wires and carried out repairs on October 3.

Heaton Park & Hall posted on their Facebook page this morning: "Free tram rides!

"In celebration of our tramway reopening, free tram rides are being offered all day on Saturday, October 26, between 11am and 4pm.

"This is a brilliant opportunity to bring your friends and family and enjoy a ride through the park!"

Booking is not required. Rides will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
