A woman has died after being found fighting for life at a bus stop in East Renfrewshire.

Police were called to Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns early yesterday morning where the 46-year-old woman was found slumped over a pavement.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in East Kilbride but later died.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained. It is not yet known how long she had been lying on the street.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers were made aware of concerns for a 46-year-old woman found at a bus stop on Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns at around 7.15am on Tuesday, October 15.

"The woman was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where she later died.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained, although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal".
