A TEACHER has been confronted by an online vigilante group – and accused of wanting to meet up with underage girls.

The man, who is understood to work at Bolton College, was reportedly arrested on Saturday after being confronted by members of the group.

Members accused him of messaging 'decoys' – online profiles set up by the group purporting to be young girls.

Police refused to comment on the sting – but the group responsible said the man had been arrested.

Last night college bosses moved swiftly to reassure that their safeguarding processes were "robust" – but said they were unable to comment further on advice of the police.

The group responsible also refused to comment.

It is understood the teacher has not been charged by police.

A spokesman for Bolton College said: "We have robust safeguarding measures in place at the college."

The college said any further media enquiries should be directed to the police.

Greater Manchester Police refused to comment.

Bolton College teaches students aged 16-plus.

The most recent Ofsted inspection reported that: "Managers ensure that appropriate checks are carried out on all staff, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and comprehensive scrutiny of job applicants’ suitability."
