PLANS to open a beauty salon at the site of a former sweet shop have been given the go ahead by the council.

The ground floor of the property in Hughes Street can now be used as a beauty salon with a small nail bar, a reception and treatment room.

The new business would employ one full-time and two part-time employees, according to a report by planning officers.

Slight alterations will be made to the existing shop front including the enlargement of the shop windows and reduction in the brick stallriser below the window.

The report also said that there are two allocated parking spaces to the front of the property.

Planning permission granted the premises can only be open for trade between 9am and 7pm during the week and from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

The premises is not allowed to be open on Sundays or bank holidays.

Any signage would be subject to a separate advertisement consent.

The building is located in a predominantly residential area, on the corner of Hughes Street and Cloister Street in Smithills.
