RESIDENTS have voiced anger at spates of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour they say are plaguing their estate.

Anti-social behaviour is rife on the Sutton Estate and is forcing people to consider selling up and moving to escape the nightly terrors, according to residents of the Hulton streets who say ‘if we could afford to move, we would not be here’.

Speeding, rat running and drug dealing are among the host of issues keeping residents up at night, but they say their complaints are being ignored by the police.

The estate has become unrecognisable in the last decade, said one resident at the Hulton area forum earlier this week: “I have been on this estate 51 years and until around ten years ago, it was always a nice place to live, now I’m up all night with noise.”

Another resident said: “People race around the corners of this estate so fast, they’re going to come through my fence one day. I have two young kids who I can’t let play out.”

The resident said that incidents reported to the police’s 101 number are rarely resolved, adding: “I’ve seen drug deals happen here but it almost feels like it’s not actually worth calling. I’ve reported for the last three years and nothing has happened. I know police officers are facing challenges on the ground but they are there to provide us with safety and at the moment, it doesn’t feel safe here. If we could have afforded to move, we would not be here any more.”

Hulton councillor Toby Hewitt said he would take away the comments and said traffic calming measures could be an option: “It is nice to engage with the community and hear about their concerns in the area. If there are issues, we’ll seek to address them.”

Greater Manchester Police has been asked to comment.
