SOME 200 singers and brass players led by their musical director Chris Wormald are to take to the stage soon in a celebration of the magic of Disney.

The concert by Eagley Band, Smithills Community Band and Smithills Community Choir takes place at the Victoria Hall in Bolton, on Saturday, October 26, with tickets priced at just £5.

It has been organised by Bolton Lever Rotary Club to raise funds for the Royal National Institute for the Blind's Talking Book Service.

Mr Wormald, who has been MD of the three ensembles taking part for more than 20 years, promised a sing-along night with plenty of audience participation with many favourites from the classic Disney movies, like the Jungle Book and Mary Poppins part of the programme.

But the theme of the night will be The Greatest Showman with music from the film starring Hugh Jackman a major part of the evening.

Mr Wormald told The Bolton News: "We want everyone to join in. It promises to be a wonderful and entertaining evening. There will be a lot of fun and audience participation.

"Of the 200 performers on stage there will be 130 singers and 70 bands people. It's going to be great."

And he hailed the venue, the Victoria Hall, which he said was "very close to my heart".

He added: "It's the best concert hall in Lancashire. The atmosphere and acoustics in there are second to none.

"I have been conducting in the hall since moving to Bolton 36 years ago in 1983, so it takes time to build up a loyal audience which enjoys what we do every time."

Bolton Lever Rotary Club president Bernad Murphy meanwhile appealed for local support for the concert.

He said: "We're really looking forward to this event. Chris has done amazing work with these performers who never fail to put on a great show.

"The RNIB provides an invaluable service to all people with sight impairment, particularly to those whose disability leads to loneliness and isolation.

"The charity also runs book clubs where groups of people read the same book and then chat about it online, leading to friendships being formed.

"It is an organisation that needs continual funds to provide its excellent service."
