A BOLTON dance group showed off its moves to the nation as it took centre stage at one of the year’s biggest sporting events.

Bolton All Starz were invited to perform before 60,000 people during the interval of the Rugby League Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday after winning a national competition.

Dancers showed off their best cheerleading moves on the pitch, while one of the group’s members, five-year-old Jack Lucas, even met Prince Harry before kick off.

Jack, who lives in Harwood and is a pupil at Beacon Primary School in Horwich, was chosen to be a mascot for Warrington Wolves and led the teams on to the pitch.

But, as Prince Harry was being introduced to both teams, one of the officials leading him stepped past Jack. The Royal was quick to notice though, and returned to shake the youngster’s hand and speak to him one-to-one.

“It was a fantastic experience for Jack,” said Alison Power, the leader of Bolton All Starz.

“Prince Harry asked his name, age and whether he was looking forward to the match.

“Jack loves rugby so we asked if he could be the mascot and they agreed.”

The youngster proved to be Warrington’s lucky mascot as they beat St Helens 18-4 to lift the trophy.

However, he is not the first person in his family to meet a member of the Royal Family. His mother, Katie, was pictured meeting Princess Diana at the opening of Bolton Hospice in 1993.

Bolton All Starz was set up by Alison Power in 1996 and in its time, the dancers have raised more than £750,000 for charity.

Although the group, which is based at Brownlow Fold Community Learning Centre, has 75 members aged between four and 16, only a select group were chosen to take part in the Wembley show.

Ms Power said: “It was a really good day, the kids had a great time. The atmosphere was fantastic and they received a massive cheer. They represented the town really well.”
