THOUSANDS of Warrington and Wolves fans are set to descend on the capital for The Challenge Cup this weekend.

But two Wire supporters have set themselves the extraordinary task of cycling the journey from the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington to the Wembley Stadium in London in just two days..

James Howes and Nathan March set off on Thursday and will attempt to travel the 215 miles in time for kick off on Saturday.

The pair are raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity, and the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation.

James is the sport and lifestyles manager for the Wolves Foundation and has seen first-hand through the Warrington Wolves Match Buddies initiative how important it is to provide support to people with dementia, enabling them take back control of their lives and remain independent for longer.

James said: “Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and currently there is no cure. Warrington Wolves is passionate about helping to play a part in enabling people living with dementia to live well and enjoy life.”

He continued: “We have teamed up with the mental health students from the University of Chester and put in place the Match Buddies scheme that helps get fans living with dementia in local care homes and the Warrington community to The Halliwell Jones Stadium to continue enjoying the sport they love.”

Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser, Amy Blackburn said: “We are extremely grateful to James Howes and Nathan March for taking the time to do this cycling challenge and raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

"We’re facing an incredible challenge: one person every three minutes develops dementia and there is no cure. We’re here to change that but we need more people like James and Nathan to join us as we take on dementia and raise the much-needed funds for the charity.”
