AN HISTORIC tower built by one of the town's most famous sons is set to be opened to the public.

Rivington's Pigeon Tower, constructed by businessman Lord Leverhulme, will be available to visit during an upcoming open day on bank holiday Monday, August 26.

Entry is free but the Rivington Heritage Trust will be collecting donations.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale for £1 each with entrants in with a chance to win a stay for one night for two people at the tower.

The heritage trust group has been systematically regenerating parts of the area, including a major project at the famous terraced gardens on the path towards Rivington Pike.
