THE funeral of Edna Arnold, the former Tory councillor who founded Blackburn’s Nightsafe refuge for the homeless, will take place at the town’s Cathedral.
The September 3 celebration of the life of the former Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen will start at 10am.
The ashes of the 82-year-old will be interred the following day at Pleasington Crematorium following a second service at Pleasington Priory at 10am.
At both services, collections will be held for Nightsafe which Mrs Arnold founded in 1989 after becoming concerned at the number of young people sleeping on the streets of Blackburn.
Her son Julian said a memorial and gravestone will be placed at Pleasington Priory at a later date.
Mrs Arnold came to Blackburn with her husband Keith in 1960.
She became Conservative councillor for West Rural ward, later Livesey with Pleasington, where she lived in 1973.
She served until 1998 and was Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen borough in 1994/95.
