AN expert ventilation firm in Bury can compete for national honours after being named the best in the north west at their regional awards.

Lord Street based Exyte Hargreaves walked away with two gongs and two commendations at the Building Engineering Services Awards (BESA) in Manchester.

And their successful candidates have been automatically entered into BESA’s national finals, which will take place at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London on November 21.

Melissa Lee was named heating and ventilation apprentice of the year at the north-west event. She works as an apprentice fabricator welder at the Bury site and is a graduate of the Engineering Young Talent programme.

And James Hoare, a HR business partner, won the award for Staff Driven Improvement Initiative of the Year, at the Crowne Plaza gathering.

His winning entry was a mental health awareness programme. This has resulted in James being able to train seven mental health first aiders.

The BESA commendations came in the employer training initiative and employer engagement with training development categories.
