A POPULAR Farnworth deli is closing down at the end of this week after two years.

Deli on the Square opened in the market precinct in November 2017.

The store sells freshly made coffees, as well as home made sandwiches and pies.

Owner Ben Keen said it is with great sadness that he has to close the deli’s doors for the last time this week.

He said: “It is very sad but I can’t really discuss the reasons that I’m leaving.

“I’ve put my heart and soul into this.

“We’re in an awful location and we’ve made it one of the busiest shops in Farnworth so we’ve done well.

“Customers have been gutted as well, they have been queuing out of the door.”

After Mr Keen announced the store would be closing, customers have been in touch to express their disappointment.

Paying tribute to them and his two members of staff, he added: “I want to say thank you to all the customers who made this small dream a reality from the word go.

“Its been a pleasure working in Farnworth. There’s never been a dull day in this shop and I’m truly humbled and grateful for everyone’s input.

“Also a big thank you to both the ladies who have been by my side and kept the standards you all know and love.”

Mr Keen is now exploring options including relocating the store, although nothing is yet set in stone. He added that he will now be having a week of relaxation to get over the emotional strain the decision has had on him.

“I’ve been tired and stressed but I made peace with it at the weekend.

“It is what it is. These things happen, it’s just about getting back to base and starting again.

“I’m optimistic about the future and I will be keeping the Facebook page open in case I find a suitable location.”
