A NEW confidential texting service for those experiencing mental health problems is being launched in Lancashire next month.

Young people with wellbeing concerns can take advantage of a new helpline service being offered by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Promoters say anyone using it will receive a welcome text and then an operator will look to respond within 24 hours. Those taking part will be signposted to local or national services which may be able to assist.

Lorraine Khalaf, the helpline's manager, said: "We are really excited to be expanding our service and to be able to increase our offer to people living in the area. We recognise that for some people, picking up the phone can be equally as difficult as having a conversation face-to-face.

"Some people can feel pressured to think about what it is they want to say over the phone, but equally in the back of their minds, may know that they need to talk to someone.

"It is really important for a service like the Mental Health Helpline to be able to move with the times and offer a flexible service that offers the right support through the right channels."

Trained volunteers will ask young people to share as much information as possible. Text HELLO to 07860 022 846, Mondays to Fridays 7pm to 11pm and Sundays noon to midnight.
