CARRS Pasties has announced it will be the latest bakery to introduce a vegan range, with two new additions to its menu.

The Bolton-based bakery is adding a vegan pasty and vegan sausage roll to its popular menu.

Carrs Pasties has worked with the Meatless Farm Company to develop the plant-based products, using ingredients such as rice protein, pea protein, soya protein and fruit and vegetable extracts.

The vegan pasty is based on the Carrs Pasties original meat and potato pasty and uses the same shortcrust pastry, while the vegan sausage roll uses the same seasoning and puff pastry as the Carrs Pasties original sausage roll.

It follows the bakery asking customers which new products they would like to see - with vegan options being the most popular request.

Joe Carr, managing director at Carrs Pasties said: “Even in the early stages of developing our vegan range, our aim has always been to produce top quality, healthy products with mass appeal.

"Rather than rush into a quickly expanding market, we wanted to take the time to find a partner like the Meatless Farm who share our values.

"We always say that we wouldn’t sell anything that we wouldn’t queue up to buy ourselves – so whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, or if you are simply looking to reduce the amount of meat in your diet, please give our new vegan range a try and let us know what you think.”

Samples will be available to try at Carrs Pasties Original Shop, in Halliwell Road from Monday.

The products will be available to buy at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival and in Carrs Pasties other shops in Manchester Road and at the Market Place Shopping Centre on Friday 23 August.

To launch the new vegan products Carrs Pasties have worked with Bolton video production company Sitcom Soldiers to create a video showcasing the products.

Carrs Pasties has three shops in Bolton and currently has a core range of six products. In 2015 the company added the steak pasty to its range and in 2017 the cheese and jalapeno pasty was introduced.
