Two female officers were assaulted as they tried to help a woman on Blackburn train station.
The officers, who work for the British Transport Police were assisting the female following an incident that took place on one of the platforms.
One officer suffered bruises on her leg after being repeatedly kicked, the other had bruises and was also spat at in her face.
A spokesperson for the BTP said: "Shortly after 8.40pm on August 13, a 17-year-old man from Lancashire was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, this followed an incident on a platform at Blackburn station.
"Enquiries continue in relation to this incident.
"Witnesses are urged to contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 562 of August 13."
