A woman was taken to hospital following a smash on the M65.

One lane of the motorway, between junctions six and seven, had to be closed on Friday following a crash involving three vehicles.

Emergency services were called around 10.45am to the eastbound carriageway at junction six of the M65 and one lane was closed off.

Traffic officers attended the scene along with recovery services and the ambulance service.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of a three-vehicle collision at 10.46am.

"We attended with an ambulance and one female, in her early 20s, was taken to hospital."

No serious injuries were reported and the ambulance was in attendance for around 40 minutes.

By noon all lanes had re-opened.
