A strongman competition is being held at a pub to raise money for a community defibrillator.

'Sons of Anxiety presents Strongman at The Prairie' will take place on Sunday August 25 at The Prairie pub, Burnley.

Organiser, Daniel Fish, said: "The main road here, Colne Road, has a problem with speeding cars and there have been bad accidents in the past on this road and those in the surrounding area.

"We're raising money for the Carling project which is the pub's charity and in this instance we are aiming to install a community defibrillator outside the pub.

"Some of the money raised by the athletes competing through sponsorship will be going to Cancer Research too."

The competition will see a maximum of 40 athletes competing across four categories - the overhead medley consisting of Axel press, log press and monster dumbbell press for reps; tyre deadlifts; farmers carry; and Conan's wheel.

Both men and women will be taking part and there will be an A and a B competition in each category, with the B competition being around 25-30 percent heavier than the A.

Mr Fish's partner, TJ, works in the pub and asked him to arrange a family funday for them.

He said: "I offered to host a strongman event to help raise money towards their cause.

"I'm currently nursing a back injury from training for a competition I won at Kaos in Preston back in June, so I have focused my efforts of hosting the event whilst I rehab ahead of my next competition in October.

"We currently have more than 20 confirmed athletes entering the strongman, and the name, 'Sons of Anxiety', came about due to the vast number of competitors coming into the sport to help battle mental health issues.

"We actively work with those suffering from depression, substance abuse, anxiety and other issues prevalent in today's society."

The event will run on Sunday August 25 at The Prairie pub, Burnley, from 11am until 4pm and will coincide with a family funday that is being held on the same day.
