A BUSY main road has been reopened after an accident.

Manchester Road in Kearsley was blocked both ways due to the incident near the Unity Brook Inn, affecting traffic between Kearsley and Clifton leading to delays with queuing traffic reported in the area

Emergency services were called at around noon, with police shutting off the road.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: "Due to a Police incident, the A666 Manchester Road in Kearsley is currently closed in both directions near the Unity Brook Inn. Find an alternate route."

Eye-witness Phil Taylor said the accident did not seem to involve any other vehicle and the car ended up near the central reservation of the road, near the bollards.

"There was a fire engine and a fire service technical response unit on the scene.

"The fire service cut off the roof of the car, a Toyota, and the driver was put on a spinal board.

"The road was closed in both directions."

The road reopened shortly before 4pm.
