A SHAKE-UP of senior management at the town hall has been stalled.

The Labour group have called in the second phase of major organisational changes at the council, demanding further scrutiny.

The Transition to Change report, which was agreed by cabinet on July 29, would see at least two new senior officer posts created.

Opposition leader Linda Thomas that the move is premature and has not been fully costed.

She said: “We are not convinced of the need to create new senior management positions whilst other areas of the council are suffering from continued cuts due to central government starvation of funds.”

Council leader David Greenhalgh accused Labour of "deliberately" slowing down the work recommended by an independent review.

He said: “All decisions, both financial and structural, would be open and transparent, going through the relevant cabinet member with opposition councillors present.”
