A HOUSE has been left badly smoke damaged after a tumble dryer caught fire.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in Morley Road, Radcliffe, at about 4.20pm today.

Crews from Whitefield, Farnworth and Bolton North fire stations tackled the fire, which was started by the faulty appliance, which was unplugged at the time.

No one was injured, although the kitchen and downstairs of the property sustained major smoke damage.

Gareth Houghton, watch manager at Whitefield Fire Station, said: "One of the neighbours called us.

"The owner realised the tumble dryer had a fault so he had unplugged it.

"It must have carried on smouldering while he was at work, though."
