DOZENS of homes were left without water after a main pipe burst in Bradshaw.

The leak in Bradshaw Road was first reported to United Utilities at 3pm on Thursday.

It left about 100 homes without water or with low pressure on what was the hottest day of the year so far.

Engineers were called into help repair the leak on Thursday evening, while seven water tankers were also drafted in to ensure the water supply continued running to homes in the area.

Peter Gore, who lives in Bradshaw Hall Drive, was one of those whose home was affected.

He said: "It has been annoying, but it was only off for about two hours.

"United Utilities have had tankers on overnight. You would not want to be without water on a day like yesterday.

"I just hope it gets fixed shortly."

Tammy Whittaker was another resident who was affected. She said: "I went to my brother's for a shower and got some bottles of water.

"It is not the end of the world, though."

United Utilities say it is not clear what caused the leak, but it is hoped that the necessary repairs will be completed by the end of the day.

Temporary traffic signals have been installed in Bradshaw Road while the work is carried out.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: "Repairs started last night and have continued through the night.

"We hope to have the repairs finished by the end of the day.

"We are working as fast as we can and we are grateful for everyone's patient while the repairs are carried out."
