BLACKBURN'S ice rink will be reopening next month.

Planet Ice has revealed it will reopen its doors to the public on Friday, August 16, after being shut since May.

It was closed to repair a small hump which appeared at the rink in Lower Audley Street.

The 2,600 seater stadium has been closed for several weeks while workers removed the ice pad and replaced roughly six kilometres of piping.

A new trench on the east side of the rink has also been dug to help with the underfloor cooling and heating systems.

The hump, which was found near to the centre of the rink, has now been removed.

A Planet Ice spokesman said: "This news certainly won't give you the 'hump', it has been confirmed that Blackburn Ice Rink will re-open on the evening of Friday August 16th.

"After many weeks of closure to address the issues of the ‘the hump’ that has appeared over the years, Planet Ice are pleased to announce that the pad will be fully restored and provide a fantastic ice skating experience into the future."
