A MAN and a woman suffered head and back injuries when they were hit by a car.
The incident took place near the entrance to the Morrisons car park in Cicely Lane, Blackburn, at 11.40am yesterday.
A police spokesman said a woman in her 70s and a man in his 60s were taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
Cicely Lane was closed by police and traffic was being redirected.
Pedestrians were still able to walk along Cicely Lane.
The road was later reopened at around 2pm.
An air ambulance was called to the scene and landed on a car park near the former Thwaites brewery site, which is in the process of being demolished.
However an air ambulance service spokesman said the patients were taken to hospital in a road ambulance.
A police statement said: “We were called to the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Cicely Lane, Blackburn.
“The road was closed while emergency services attended.”
It is not thought the incident was related to the traffic lights which are currently not working at the Cicely Lane and Salford junction.
Cllr Phil Riley, growth and development boss for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said the lights were broken and remedial work was needed on them.
A date for the repairs to take place has not yet been fixed.
The Morrisons car park entrance leads directly onto the first floor of the car park.
A Morrisons spokesman said no comment would be made as the incident was a police matter.
