A MOTOR sports enthusiast and veteran businessman has been presented with an honorary fellowship by a Lancashire educational establishment.

John Stone, who has run Legend Fires in Blackburn since 1996, has been lauded by Myerscough College and University Centre.

His Glenfield Park firm has become synonymous with rallying, an abiding passion, through his backing of the North West Stages race.

And the Wilpshire boss has also become just well known as a Down's Syndrome campaigner after his son Alex was born with the condition.

John said: "When I received the invitation I couldn't believe I'd be in the same company as previous recipients such as Andrew Flintoff, Bill Beaumont, and one of my heroes, motorcycle legend, John McGuinness."

Other luminaries to have received fellowships include ex-Manchester United manager, David Moyes; football legend Jimmy Armfield and Sir Tom Finney;. Lancashire cricketer Andrew Flintoff and supermarket entrepreneur, Edwin Booth.
