SOME of the best stage events in the world come to Chorley cinema next week.

Chorley Empire Community Cinema is showing the latest concert by Andre Rieu and the latest plays from the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company on its brand-new screen at Chorley Little Theatre.

The new screen provides the sharpest and brightest image yet and is ideal for digital projection, with surround sound.

The group’s chairman, Eddie Robinson, said audiences will almost feel like they’re at the shows themselves.

Dubbed “The King of the Waltz” Andre Rieu has been entertaining audiences worldwide for over thirty years and once again his annual hometown concert in Maastricht provides the backdrop to a night of magnificent music.

With the theme of “Shall We Dance” Andre and his orchestra will be bring the waltz and other favourites to life with help from world-class sopranos and some special guests.

The concert is showing at 7pm on July 27 and 3pm on July 28. Tickets for the event are priced at £18, £15 concessions.

Meanwhile on July 25 there is a live broadcast via satellite from London’s National Theatre of The Lehman Trilogy.

Sir Simon Russell Beale leads the cast in the story of three generations of bankers and how the once-proud firm collapsed into bankruptcy.

Directed by Same Mendes, known for his work on Skyfall and American Beauty, the performance has been described in the national press as a “theatrical landmark”.

On July 31, Shakespeare’s Measure For Measure will be screened live from Stratford-Upon-Avon and has been hailed as the RSC’s best work this year.

Relocated to 20th Century Vienna, the play’s tale of corrupt authority and whistleblowers remains resonant today.

Both plays start at 7pm and tickets are £12
