ONE of the summer’s most exciting events is set to take place this weekend, with organisers promising it will be ‘bigger and better’ than ever before.

Over 15,000 people attended the three-day Royal Lancashire Show in 2018, with bosses hoping just as many if not more will flock to the event this year.

Gates to the show, held at Salesbury Hall, will open at 9.30am on Friday, continuing into the weekend and coming to a close at 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

A whole host of activities and events will be taking place, with entertainment for the whole family and something for everyone to enjoy.

And one of the highlights of this year’s show is sure to be an appearance from the guys behind the Vander Super Heroes Wheel of Death, who promise to provide an ‘adrenaline-fuelled act that will leave your heart in our mouth.’

A spokesman for the show said: “There will be two main ring of entertainment, dancing sheep, sheep dog trials, fun dog shows, light horse competitions, the children’s village, a fun fair sheep shearing demonstrations, gin alley, lifestyle marquee, food, drinks and shopping, a beer festival and much more.”

Equestrian fans will also be pleased to hear that famed showjumper John Whittaker MBE will be competing at the event.

A spokesman said: “We are extremely excited to announce that John Whittaker MBE, a Gold Medal British Equestrian and Olympian, will be showjumping at this year’s Royal Lancashire Show.

“We’re looking forward to a great display of professional showjumping, from some regional and national stars.”

The show, under the guise of Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show, is one of the oldest in the UK beginning life in 1767.

Earlier on in the year, organisers of the show appealed to members of the public to ‘rediscover the show’s heritage'.

Show chairman Colin Mustoe said: “The Royal Lancashire Show is a massive attraction across the whole county and has had an audience of potentially millions over its lifetime.

“But it’s heritage and memories are scattered across all corners of the county and maybe even the UK, so that’s why we are appealing for people to come forward with memorabilia from past shows so we can piece together its history. People may still have posters, programmes, tickets, winning rosettes from past shows that we would love to see and get a record of."
