AN open day is being held to help inform the community about fire safety.

Crews from Blackburn Fire Station, Byrom Street, will host the event on Saturday, from 10am until 4pm.

They will also be taking part in live demonstrations and there will be opportunities to look around the station and inside the fire engines.

Any money raised on the day will go to two of the station’s nominated charities.

Watch Manager Chris Archer said: “This year we will be supporting the Firefighter’s Charity, who support sick and injured firefighters and their families in the time of need nationally.

“We’ll also be splitting any funds raised with our local Ophthalmology department at the Royal Blackburn Hospital who are raising money for new diagnostic equipment that support their specialist services.”

Firefighters will engage with the community on a host of different fire safety messages.

They will also hold raffles and there will be cake stalls and other activities to make it an enjoyable day for those attending.
