LANCASHIRE County Council has confirmed the removal of subsidies to 10 school bus services from September next year.
The change is part of a package of measures to save the authority £46million by 2022/23.
The decision by the authority;'s Cabinet on Thursday follows a six-week lengthy consultation
Among the services affected are: the 623 Mellor, Traders Arms to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School ; the860 Blackburn Roe Lee to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and Bowland High School; the 873 Accrington Wyresdale Avenue to St Anne’s Roman Catholic Primary School; and the 889 Simonstone to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School.
Two further services – the 775 Mellor Brook and Langho The Rydings to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and the 876 Longridge to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School - where revenue from fares and season tickets currently covers the cost could be at risk if the income from other students drops.
Cllr Phillippa Williamson, cabinet member schools, said:" It is essential that as a council we balance the books, and the cabinet did consider all the responses very carefully.
"We've allowed a full academic year so that schools, parents and carers can put arrangements in place.
"We will also use this time to work with schools and bus operators affected to establish whether arrangements can be made to provide these services at no cost to the council."
