The sun shone once again on Euxton Gala Day, the annual event held in the heart of the village.

Traditional favourites were the order of the day for Gala Day, when families and friends gathered to enjoy fun and games including fairground rides, ‘Chuck A Welly’, ‘Pillow Fights’ and local performers in the central arena.

There were donkey rides, inflatable attractions, birds of prey, appearances by Chorley’s emergency services, and the much-loved ‘egg toss’ to end the day.

Chairman of Euxton Gala Day Committee, Robert Sage, said: “Gala Day has been running every year for more than four decades, and we’re delighted to see that so many local people still enjoy coming along and supporting the event.

“This year we honoured a much loved and missed committee member, Val Bradley, who sadly passed away.

“Val worked tirelessly for many years to help make gala day the success it is, and we wanted to honour her memory.

“Val spent much of her time working and volunteering with young children, so we felt it was a fitting tribute to name the schools’ football competition trophy after her. This year, Vals’ husband awarded the Val Bradley Cup to the winnings teams from Euxton C of E and Balshaw Lane.

Joining Gala Day this year were the Parklands Elite Dance Team, the choir from Balshaw Lane Primary School, Scottish dancers and musicians, who entertained the hundreds of visitors who came to enjoy the day.

Robert added: “Euxton Gala Day was originally established to raise funds for Euxton Methodist Church and Euxton Church of England Church, and we’re delighted to still be supporting the village community in this way.

“Our volunteers work hard all year round to make Gala Day happen, and we couldn’t do it without the support of local businesses and organisations who offer practical help, prizes, goods and services for free.

“We would love to see more people get involved in the planning and running of Gala Day; anyone who’d like to find out more about volunteering can contact us through our Facebook page.”
