A WOMAN who lent her car to a fellow party guest ended up being arrested herself.

Blackburn magistrates heard the car was crashed into a house as soon as it set off and the driver ran off.

Rebecca Sarah Anderson initially co-operated with police and provided a road side breath sample but then refused to provide an evidential sample at the police station.

Anderson, 23, of Ormerod Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen. She was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, made subject to a community order with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge. She was banned from driving for 48 months.

Aftab Bakhat, defending, said his client had been at a party and foolishly agreed to let someone borrow her car.

"She watched him set off and immediately crash into a house," said Mr Bakhat. He said Anderson hadn't driven the car and explained that to the police but felt they weren't listening to her.

"She became angry at being arrested and refused to provide a sample," said Mr Bakhat.

"She now wishes she had co-operated."
