BURNLEY Youth Theatre is set to begin research for a counter-terrorism project.

The project will explore young people's views and opinions, and aims to provide an insight into terrorism through the medium of drama.

The piece, written and directed by Alice Bartlett, is a partnership project with Lancashire Constabulary (Hate Crime Division).

It is funded by The Big Lottery Young People's Fund, Lancashire County Council, and the constabulary.

As it is part of Burnley Youth Theatre's Running the Show and Arrow schemes, all details of the project were decided on by a group of keen 11 to 18-year olds.

Counter-terrorism is just one of many subjects set to be covered during the three-year Lottery-funded project.

After the initial research period ends in December, Alice will put the finishing touches to the piece and rehearsals will begin in January 2008.

Performances will take place first at BYT and then at local venues in the community in April.

The cast will be made up of people from many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
