A DAD turned on police called by his ex-partner as he harmed himself, Burnley magistrates heard.

The court was told how David Thomas Allen, 38, hit one officer in the face leaving him with an eye injury and grabbed another by the arm and squeezed tightly.

The injured officer also suffered bruises as well as a swollen eye socket.

The defendant, of Cog Lane, Burnley, admitted two counts of police assault on August 9.

Allen, who had no previous convictions for violence, was given a 12 month community order with supervision and must pay £100 compensation, but no costs.
