A GROUP of young people have recorded their own CD and DVD.

The young people, who all have a history of care, recorded the collection of poems and songs this week at Cellar Bar, in Blackburn.

The songs, poems, and rap music focus on leaving care, and the young people have been working alongside Blackburn with Darwen leaving care team to put the project together.

Young people in care are obliged by law to stay in care until they are 21 or, if they are in education, until their studies have been completed.

Coun Chris Thayne, Blackburn with Darwen Council's executive member for children's services, said: "Supporting young people in our care as they prepare for increasing independence is of great importance.

"Knowing about the problems that other care leavers have encountered will mean they will be better equipped to make the right decisions that lead to successful futures."
