HEALTH and crime officials from across Europe are heading to East Lancashire next week to see how drugs and alcohol services tackle addiction.
More than a dozen experts from Germany, Romania, Ukraine, Finland, Slovenia and Russia form part of the delegation, hosted by Lancashire Drugs and Alcohol Action Team.
Part of their trip will include a visit to see how the Lancashire unit's multi-agency problem-solving team and drugs treatment services, both based in Burnley, work day-to-day.
An estimated 6,000 people in Lancashire have a problem with heroin and there are believed to be 4,000 cocaine users countywide.
The Lancashire tour will also take the delegation to Preston Prison and Lancaster Farms young offenders instiution, to assess what work is taking place to tackle the drugs menace in the prison population.
