MANCHESTER International Festival continues with a host of both free and paid events.

On Saturday there’s the chance to enjoy Atmospheric Memory at the Science and Industry Museum in the city.

At once a daring artwork and a sensory performance, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s (pictured) breathtaking immersive installation scours the atmosphere for the voices of our past.

Performances: 10am to 5pm.

IT’s only on the doorstep but there’s a whole side of Manchester which you probably don’t know about.

Manchester Guided Tour and Walks can remedy that this Saturday with its deceptively titled Uninteresting Objects Tour.

Guaranteed to beguile and amuse by concentrating on frequently bypassed objects that tell a rich story, it sets off from Oxford Road Railway Station at 5pm. Call 07876 235638 for details.

IF you yearn for the musical greatness of Joy Division then the Old Courts in Wigan is the place you should be tomorrow (7.30pm).

Transmission: The Sound of Joy Division perform the music of one of Manchester’s most influential bands.

CLASSICAL music enthusiasts are in for a treat at the Bridgewater Hall tomorrow (7.30pm) when Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra perform Mahler Symphony No. 8.

It is the centrepiece of the world renown music school’s 50th anniversary year and will be broadcast live on Radio 3.

The piece will be conducted by Stephen Threlfall who is leaving after 24 years as the school’s director of music.

IF the heat is getting to you, cool down at Burnley’s Towneley Hall this weekend.

On display are a number of paintings by Joseph Farquharson, guaranteed to bring your temperature down.

The name might mean nothing to you but his work of sheep in snow will be instantly recognisable due to it being on thousands of Christmas cards.
