AN ANNUAL festival will this year help to raise funds for a promising student who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.

Since October, Laura Nuttall has been on several incredible adventures as she ticks items off from a bucket list she created in the wake of her diagnoses.

And now, the teenager from Barrowford is being honoured during an annual running festival, where all of the money raised will be donated to help her battle the illness.

The Pendle Running Festival will take place in July, where a 5k, 10k and half marathon will take place.

The courses are described as 'scenic but challenging,' and are based from Barley.

Organiser Molly Ralphson said: "This is the fifth year of the Pendle Running Festival and this year we decided to raise money for 'Doing it for Laura' charity. We have known Laura and her family for many years and the tragic diagnosis has affected us all in some way.

"Laura runs for Trawden Athletic Club, along with her mum Nicola, and the running community has united to raise funds so Laura can battle this disease.

"We hope to have a bumper entry to support Laura and the races have proved popular in previous years."

Keen runner Laura has previously ran a marathon and continues to take part in 5k park runs, continually surprising her mum Nicola Nuttal, who regularly posts updates through her Twitter page.

The 19-year-old had been just weeks into her international relations degree at Kings College in London when she began to suffer with headaches and nausea.

She brushed it off as a cold and continued with her studies - but when she applied to join the Royal Navy reserves an eye test required for entry revealed something much more serious.

Over the last nine months Laura has undergone intense radiotherapy and chemotherapy, all while mustering up the strength to complete a monster bucket list which has taken to her New York, seen her meet celebrities such as singer Dido and footballer Jordan Pickford and even learn how to pan for gold.

The Pendle Running Festival, which will take place on July 20th and 21st is sponsored by physioroom.com.
