A NIGHT sleeping rough in Blackburn town centre ended up costing a man £1,000.
Blackburn magistrates heard Lee Hepple kicked out at a shop door when he woke up and found some of his possessions had been stolen.
Hepple, 30, of Whalley Old Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging a reinforced glass door belonging to Debenhams. He was ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said after being told about the broken door police viewed CCTV footage and identified Hepple as being responsible.
The footage showed him outside the store at 3.20am and then kick the door causing it to smash.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client had a bad night.
"He hadn't been able to get into the address where he was staying and ended up sleeping rough in the Debenhams doorway," said Mr Taylor.
"When he woke up he realised a number of his possessions had been stolen. In anger and frustration he kicked out, never expecting the door to smash."
