YOUNG people shared their ideas to shape the future of Bolton.

More than 150 delegates attended the third annual Youth Vision Conference, held at the Albert Halls, to discuss the theme of "Prosperous Bolton".

Pupils from schools across the borough were invited to attend, taking part in a number of activities and putting forward their ideas.

Young people shared their thoughts on how to improve aspiration, boost skills training and career choices, create a cleaner environment and encourage more children to take part in physical activity.

Teams then presented their ideas to a panel made up of councillors, head teachers and civic leaders.

Zain Khan, aged 10, of Bolton School said: "I learned a lot, there were a lot of fun activities and I liked taking part.”

Delilah Flagg, 15, from Thornleigh Salesian College, added: "I enjoyed meeting other young people who wanted to change the future.”

The conference is organised by Bolton Youth MPs, Bolton Youth Council and Voice 4 U.

Last year’s event won "Outstanding Achievement of the Year" at the North West Youthforia awards.

The event is part of the Bolton Vision strategy, bringing residents and organisations together to shape how the borough will look in 2030.

Bolton Vision Chair Dave Singleton, said: "The Bolton Vision is about creating a more vibrant, successful and healthier town for residents of all ages.

“There were some very interesting discussions during the Youth Conference, with young people keen to share what they love about Bolton and their ideas for how it could be even better.”

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Christine Wild, said: "If we want to secure a prosperous future for Bolton then it is essential that we listen to the ideas of those who will play the biggest part in shaping that future.

“Bolton is home to so many talented and enthusiastic young people and it was a pleasure to meet the delegates and hear what they had to say.”
